Unshielded Speakers Experience

I'm looking at purchasing a new set of speakers, while at the same time I'm considering migrating my 2-channel audio system to a fairly basic HT system. I'm wondering if I should only consider shielded speakers.
Current room is about 13' wide. Figure the speakers will end up 7-8.5' apart. Between them will be a 32" or 36" CRT TV.
