DVI and scalars

Given the flux of technology right now, does anyone think DVI will do away with video scalars? Assuming the DVI device will support the popular resolutions?

I'm giving thought to a nice display device, and I'm wondering if getting a high end scalar like Key Digital Leeza or Faroudja NRS-DVI would be obsoleted by DVI capable source devices such as a good DVD player?

I wouldn't have the need for component or other type connections as I do not watch TV - only rarely do I watch Discovery HD. I would hope future set top boxes will have DVI.
