You can have many more re-writes with DVD-RAM compared to DVD+/-RW (which allows a maximum of 500, I believe). In addition, DVD-RAM disks come in protective cases. Otherwise, there is no major difference. In the computer area, there are now a number of drives that support both the DVD-RAM and DVD+/-RW (The Iomega drive for example).
