Replace my Sony DVP-S7700?

I've had this unit for several years hooking up to my Pioneer Elite Pro 98 via S-video. My wife has been asking me to get a DVD player to hook up to the bedroom TV. With DVD players now so cheap, I am wondering if I should move the Sony into the bedroom and buy something else to watch on the big screen?
Remember that I will not be able to take advantage of the progressive scan as my TV doesn't support that. (No TV upgrade until this one dies)
Any recommendations? Or should I just get a cheap unit for the bedroom TV and keep the Sony in the main system? As for budget, anything below $700 is acceptable.
A friend has recommended a Toshiba SD-3960 for $70 at Best Buy.
