Hi, I'm not familiar with your TV, but if it's a newer one, it might have 2 audio outputs. One that is controlled by your TV's volume(variable) and one that is not. I use the non-variable one, to pass the signal to the audio system. Also if your DVD has 2 pair of audio outs, you could connect 1 to the TV, and the other to your audio system. Check the manual to be sure it can operate this way. You should also be able to dis-able the TV's internal speakers, from an on-screen menu.
Chances are slim that the volumes will be the same switching from/to different sources.
I'm lost on the cable plug size issue. No cable here, just OTA.
Are your speakers set to "large" in the Yamaha's set-up controls? This could be the cause of the no bass problem. The DVD could also have a menu to choose "no subwoofer", although this might not apply to your situation.
How about the TV's own tone control's, for more bass?
The Yamaha should have no problem running 2 sets of speakers.
When will you get a center channel speaker? IMO, you're really missing out on the HT experience without one.
Hope I've cleared something up.
