Is it just me or does Dish Network SD suck???

I am no videophile but know a good picture when I see it. Had Direct through Peagus and was about to get a HD TV, Peagus offered nothing??
DN set up two rooms and gave us the HD 811 (No Charge or commitment)
HD is good to excellent, SD sucks (Dark and at times looks somewhat out of focus) DN says they are aware of the dark pic and stated that it is a software issue that will soon be fixed???????
I have a Samsung HLN5065W DLP and am using a very good DVI cable.
