Goodness....or blonde versus Mahogany

My parents first TV was a 21 inch table model Philco. It had spindly tapered screw-on legs and they chose the $249 "blonde" model rather than the $239 mahogany one. I always thought the price differential was hilarious. The cabinet was hardboard, the wood grain painted on, and it couldn't have cost Philco once cent more to build the TV in blonde than in mahogany. In 1956 blonde furniture was all the rage, and they charged $10 extra for blonde because "they could!"

Today I was looking at those cheap plastic special "stands" they sell for $200+ for rear-projection wide screen TV's. They cant cost $25 to manufacture, if that. I guess they charge $200 and up for them because "they can!!" Geez I can buy a nice 27 inch set for the price of that stand!

ROFL
