I have an old Dishplayer 701 Receiver. You know the one that had the Web TV receiver in it and the Hard drive recorder that had a whopping 5 hour capacity! I called Dish to see why I was still having to pay $9.99 a month for my personal TV service and I explained that I understood the charge was less now and I wanted to see if mine could be reduced or eliminated. They responded by offering me the PVR 510 DVR receiver for a one time charge of $24.95 if I agreed to keep service for another year. That DVR has a capacity of 100 hours (120GB HD!) and a charge for service of only $4.95 a month. I took them up on the offer and I am going to keep the 701 also at least for now. You see I had personally upgraded it with a 80 GB HD and it now has about a 60 hr capacity! I have a couple of questions for those who might know.....What's the big deal with the 701'S? They sell on Ebay with a remote and an 80 GB HD for $300+. I have two remotes the owners manual and a wireless keyboard also! Can it be sold with the original card that is still in it to another owner with no problem? Can that new owner get a new account set up on it with no red tape? There are no charges outstanding on it or anything. The thing is ...If there is something real special about the 701 I may keep it But if the 501 is just as good with a third more record time I may sell the 701 ($$$$$). I like the idea of 100 hours of recording time on the 501. Can it be upgraded (modified) also? Please fill me in on what I should know. Thanks! Franksta
