Please recommend HT speaker package.

I'm going HT. I have purchased a Mitsubisi 48in HD TV and am now in need of sound. I'm thinking one of the Panasonic digital receivers. That leaves speakers. I live in a small townhouse and really don't have much room in the living room. Really don't even know if I'll be able to fit in a subwoofer. I need speakers that are either very thin and tall or very small on stands. My budget could run up to 2 grand. I've seen pictures of the new Definitive Tech speakers. I like the size. What else should I look at?
