Video for Dummies: Can a NEC 1920nx computer monitor accept an upconverted DVI signal from a DVD player?

Hi all,
I am thinking about adding a cheap DVD player to my computer room for a little MCH playback system. I see where some (like the Samsung 841) have video upconversion and DVI output. Will this drive my NEC monitor directly? If not, why?
