No nothin'

If you've let home theatre pass by unnoticed, wouldn't know 5.1 from Dolby, in short haven't got a clue about the various standards, formats, or whatever ... what would be the best way to get a primer without relying on a video mart salesperson (I admit to being ignorant ... but not stupid)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
