I also spent that Sunday at the show. Overall, the expo was pleasant. There were a few rooms though that were borderline repellent. The first room after you paid for admission, Audio Vision I think was their monogram, was the worse of them all. They specialize in custom home theater and part of their presentation were Velodyne subs. To give you the home theater feeling, they had the bass set way too high (or should I say too low). I never thought it was possible, but I felt my whole body vibrating from the bass in that room. I really hope the industry doesn't believe that is what every consumer wants or expects from a home theater. It was just plain staggering.
Audio Video Today was one of my favorite rooms that I had to visit a few times. The Zenith HDTV RPTV was simply gorgeous even during the occasional disruptions when someone would open the door and allow light into the room. I sat at its extreme right side, closest to the TV and at that angle most RPTVs loose their sharpness but the Zenith kept its composure. I too left the show wanting a big screen and like you can't afford it at the current price. Whether its and RPTV or FPTV, I'm not sure at this point.
