This player has developed a mechanical problem which is driving me nuts & I'm still hunting for the cause. It plays CD's no problem. However, when cold, as soon as the LD get up to speed, it screams its head off - sounds like a slipping belt except there are no belts in there. After awhile, as the unit warms up the screeching vanishes. I fact if the unit is very warm at the start (courtesy of sunshine) then it behaves impeccably. I tried putting a small amount of light machine oil in both upper & lower clamp assemblies but all that did was to spray it around everywhere with noise unabated.
I've pulled off the cover many times and the problem appears to be either in the lower motor assembly or the upper clamp. Trying to dampen the noise by applying pressure to various sections does influence, but not eliminate, the noise at the top clamping assembly.
Any inmates experienced a similar problem?Could anyone suggest a knowlegable tech I could contact?
I have been in touch with Theta but they only referred me to the Sydney agent some 500 miles away & across water from me. If I could narrow down the problem & obtain the appropriate part(s) from Pioneer (another problem is to locate the part numbers) then maybe the local guys could handle it if it is beyond me.
Any assistance or advice would be most appreciated.
John
