I have seen the Tantus, but always under less than ideal conditions. Progressive scanning--first what you get on current TV is called interlaced. 525 lines are projected, this standard was set back in the 1950s when technology was a lot simpler. You get half the image (every other line top to bottom) in 1/25 of a second and the second half in the next 1/25, so to get the entire image you need 2/25 seconds. Thus the flicker you see on current TVs. Progressive scan gives the entire image in "one shot" so it looks cleaner & more detailed than the older interlaced TVs.How far away are you sitting from your TV? If you are more than 10 feet away you may want to think about a larger TV, such as a 32 inch. The other thing is to setup the TV properly. Most are not adjusted 100% from the factory. Buy the Video Essentials DVD and adjust the TV, or pay to have an ISF certified technician to do the adjustments.
Remember TV is going through some changes, it may take 10 years but digital /HDTV is coming, even here in Canada. I would be tempted to spend less and keep the TV a shorter period of time. Buy something for well under $1000. Heck you can get a 27 inch JVC for $600 at Sears!
