Hi,
I just finnished running speaker wire under my carpet this weekend. It was a lot easier than expected. Use a wire fish tape to pull the wire under the carpet and across the room. They can be bought at any local hardware store for about $20. Move any objects in the path of the wire travel, because the tape won't make it under them. Watch for the tack boards on the edges, they will rip your wire caseing. Place a block of wood on the tack board. This will help you in 2 way's. #1 it will protect the wire from the tack board. #2 it will hold the carpet up just enough to easy the pulling of the speakerwire. Once the wire is pulled through, remove the wood block and cut out a small section of the tack board where the wire pulls out. This will protect the wire from the tack board and use the carpet to help keep the wire in place.
I used Nordost Super-Flatline and the most direct route to my speakers location and saved me a lot of wire. Flat wire won't leave a bulge under your carpet. Use any brand you would like.
