I wouldn't get the sony unless you have to have the flat screen, I find the picture to be grainy and two dimentional. This is my experience with XBR's, I'm sure the standard series are worse. The panasonic superflat and the toshiba cinema series are both nice IMO. As for DVD's; the audio quality is what differentiates the sub $600 players, If you have a decent CD player already then go with a cheaper DVD player(although I'm leary of the 525's seemingly 1.5 pound weight).
