Help! DVD player freezes up

Hi. I was watching Contact last night and when I reached chapter 18 (is 18 where the layer switch occurs on the disc?) my player froze up and then gave me a "Check Disc" warning. I cleaned the disc and see no scrathes but it won't play. It will play the beginning of 19, but then freezes up in the middle of that chapter, and has the same problem on a few more. I had the same type of trouble when watching GalaxyQuest the night before -- again right around the middle of the movie (does that disc have two layers?) I tried blowing on the lenses to clean them but it did not help. My player is a Toshiba SD-2107. Any ideas? Thanks. -Tom
