My dad used to know somebody who had a rather unusual "video" player, I will try to describe it as best as I can:The player read a disc very similar to that of a record (read by a needle, that is). The "record" was stored in a caddy or cartridge of some kind that you inserted into the loading slot in this machine, & when you pulled it out, the machine pulled the disc out of the cartridge & prepped it for play. My guess as to why this format disappeared is because it was very prone to jumping & skipping. I have two movies that have been copied to VHS tape from this format ("Young Frankenstein" & "Monty Python & the Holy Grail" for the curious) & the both of these movies do exibit jumpiness & skipping at various points.
I know that this format is clearly *not* a Laserdisc player, so what the hell was this format called?
