I purchased a remote control "extender" that translates the IR signal to RF and broadcasts the RF to a remote receiver that reconverts it to IR. The receiver unit sits in front of one component and has a second IR source attached by a short wire. That will be useful for 2 components if they are close enough together. See above for my problems which are somewhat related to yours. The unit I got is a refurbished one that I got at ebay auction. The brand and vendor was Recoton. (see www.recotondirect.com.) The price for a refurbished unit was about $10 + shipping. Oh, btw you use the regular IR remotes of the components or a smart remote for all.
