Not an easy path to tread if ...

... your 2 channel system sounds as good as it appears it would. Forget about cheap fixes to give you good sound effects, been there, tried that! If you are fussy about good audio you will not appreciate crappy surround sound effects.

It really is a waste of time, effort and dollars unless you are prepared to set up a decent system with a good processor (the most critical of components). While you are at it choose a processor that will improve the audio from your CD player (or the new DVD player).

However if funds are limited at the moment go for a Toshiba or similar that has the Dolby Digital processor built in. You can progressively add good used amps & speakers (match them with your stereo pair carefully, particularly the centre channel if you ever incorporate it) and then finally take the plunge with a good processor. They are improving daily and prices continue to come down as features improve.

Warning: DVD players are about to change with the introduction of DVD-A (maybe????). This could be good news for buying a discounted DVD player that will not play DVD-A or bad news if you get one that depreciates overnight because it becomes obselete - depends on your point of view!

Hope this helps

John
