His budget is around $2,500. and he have bought a DVD and TV already. He is not an audiophile or videophile per-se but he want some quality with his final selections. I have recommended a receiver, new separates are expensive in this case, from Denon. Could be the AVR-1801 or AVR-2801. Prices are around $499-699 (Puerto Rico local prices). Speakers may be from the ones available here. Here is a list:
1- B&W
2- Mirage
3- NHT
4- Energy
5- Definitive Technology
6- M&K
7- Tannoy
8- Sound Dynamics
9- ParadigmAll those brands offer good entry systems at $1,200-1,600, but I haven't heard them all and I doubt most of them are set in location for audition. My inclination is toward the Sound Dynamics, Paradigm and Energy. I don't know if the new NAD receiver TT-771(another receiver option) is a good versatil choice since I haven't heard much of it at this Asylum( althought the NAD reputation is well known on their price range).
Anyone may suggest a match for the Denon(or NAD) receivers? Which speakers are more musical? He will use the Panasonic DVD-VR30 as a cd player(it is better than the ancient Sony CDP-101 he have from 1982).
Thanks for your help.
Jose.
