I love my dish. Currently, only my wife and I live in this house, so we only need one receiver, however, we will get two and have more than two tv sets hooked up. It's just that a couple of rooms will be working off the same receiver which means that they post the same channel/programming. Example, in the family room and on the deck, that tv will use one receiver, while my office and bedroom will be working off another receiver, so 4 tvs but since there is only the two of us, we don't run more than two tvs with different programming at the same time. If you have a house full of kids and everykid watches their TV as well as you and your wife, then you may have a problem. With my setup, it's no problem, even with 3 people because it's very rare that we all want to watch something different. I hook the two rooms with a splitter (with both rooms getting the same channel). As for changing channels when one receiver is in one room and the TV is in the other, the remote I use with my Dish Network is UHF which means it can shoot through walls and change the channel. I spent a month or so trying to figure out which system I wanted, Dish or Direct and I chose Dish. Here are the following reason (and you can check out their web page):
#1) Dish has more coverage for local programming then Direct which catered to the city I live in.
#2) A lot of people felt that the picture quality on Dish was better (can be subjective)
#3) Dish has more bandwidth and will be more proactive towards the move in the DTV (HDTV,SDTV) (maybe that's why people feel they have better picture quality and cover more local programming)
#4) If your into sports and need the NFL package, you must goto to Direct TV right now but that contract will end in a couple of years at which time Dish will have the service as well
#5) The programming is cheaper (on their differnet packages as well as the local programming)
#6) They have a deal right now, buy the dish and year programming for at least $39.99 and get the hardware and installation for free (rebate you the money and the hardware).
#7) When I decided to pay upfront one full year, they gave me an extra month off, so I only paid for 11 monthes, not 12.
#8) You get all the movie channels for free for 3 monthes (about 30 give or take 5).
#9) I like the idea to buy a movie via the Dish all day and only pay $3.99 and not run out to Blockbuster which will cost the same however, Blockbuster does offer more movies to choose from.
#10) More CHANNELS!!! (which was more channels, higher quality, better service, less money)Good luck on your decision. It took me awhile to find which DSS company I wanted, but I knew I wasn't going to stick with cable *yuk.
