With a front projector you are going to need a screen, light control usally a drape system, a video switcher if you don't already have one,and likely a good line doubler. Plasma is very nice and you do not have to worry as much about light control. But how much of a factor light control plays will depend upon the technology of the projector you chose. Of course crt projectors sitll over the best picture bur require the most light control DLP seems to be really taking off but I am sorry I am not happy with the blacks they produce. LCD also does a good job. Sony makes a nice one but I forget the model number VHW10 or something. I like it nice picture on hdtv, not too big and lower price. It still does not have the blacks of a crr. But it is very easy to set up, requires a lot less light control. Plasma has the advantage of lower life than the bulbs in a projector. Most will burn out in between 1000 to 2000 hours and cost you several hundred dollars to replace. However with plasma you are talking a much smaller picture. Fuitsu makes one for about 16,000 dollars that has the best picture that I have ever seen on a tv. If you decide to buy a plasma set, at least look at that one so they you will have a standard to compare it against. It is a must see. What will really determine which is best for you are, your budget, size of the room, concern over black levels, and light control issues. At this point in the game I would personally opt for the Sony LCD as it has the best price and least compromises of the other technologies a very good picture but not the best.
