Help with audio/video hook up

I have a Denon 1800 receiver with a Toshiba 1600 dvd and a JVC 36D501 television which will arrive on Wednesday. I need advice on hooking up the television and the Denon receiver. On the back of the receiver there is a hook up for TV(R&L) with Video input. What is the purpose of this hook up, especially the video input? Do I need to hook up the video or just the R&L input for audio or both? I hooked up the dvd player to the receiver with a coaxial cable, do I need to hook up the audio out of the dvd to the television using R&L outputs/inputs? Thanks for your input. Dan.
