First of all, please refrain from posting the same question in multiple forums. Pick the forum that best suits the subject matter of your question and go from there. This concentrates all of the responses in one area and let's others respond to specific comments / suggestions in one specific area. This is not to mention getting the same suggestions in several different forums. You get the idea...If your trying to add "surround sound" strictly for movies, an inexpensive way to do this is to look for an add-on processor that has built in amps. I know that Adcom has a couple different units. For best performance, they should be fed from a tape monitor loop and can be switched in and out as needed. I know several people using them and they are quite happy with them for what they are. You can typically find GSP-560's for appr. $125 - $175 including the box, manual and remote. If i can remember correctly, the amps are something like 80 wpc for the center and 40 wpc for the surrounds. These ratings are at 8 ohms. While this is only dolby pro logic, it would still give you much of what your looking for at next to no investment. This would give you a small taste of what surround is like without breaking the bank.
If you really want to get into surround in a big way, keep your 2 channel equipment if your happy with it. I've been trying to find a decent quality HT / stereo preamp & processor and it's been an uphill battle so far. Good luck and hope this helps. Sean
