Hi Tony, I've done a very similar if not identical thing as to what you're proposing with the Pioneer and such. I have a full stereo system as my main/front speakers powered by an integrated amplifier. In addition I've got a DD receiver that I'm using essentialy as a surround/processor/amplifier. All sources go to both amplifiers, either directly (the dvd player) or split with y cords at the source output then to each. It works and sounds great. It gives me an enormous amount of flexibility, in that I can use the system only as a stereo system, or with the receiver as a large surround system.The speakers from the receiver acting as the surrounds, with all speakers combined it contains a total of 8 speakers, the front mains, the mid/sides, then the rears, center and sub. I love it and it really does sound great !! Do you understand what I've done here ?? You've got the equipment, try it, what have you got to lose, a little time and energy to move everything around !!! The bigger/better the system, the more of a pain it is to do anything with.
