Absolutly untrue. Digital audio transmission is immune from these analog problems. And there is no relationship between digital and optical. Copper wire can carry a digital and fiber can also carry analog signals. As for the choice, I feel use what ever works best in your system. There is no quality diffrerence. Some devices only have optical and most receivers offer both types of inputs. So you can end up having to use both in more complex systems. I have seen reports of optical being prone to jitter problems and that is quite possible. That being the case coax would be better. As for the coax cable, don't spend a lot of money on "digital audio cables". A video grade RCA to RCA cable from Radio Shack is all you need. I won't dare open the hornet's nest over analog audio cables but a digital signal is immune from all that stuff.
