Stepped vertical deflection rate on 32" Sony Wega anyone?

I notice on this monitor that the screen has three rates of vertical deflection that changes at 1/3 the screen down and 1/3 the screen up. The top third moves faster (wider lines and dimmer light output) than the middle third of the screen (slows down in the middle, shrinks up slightly, and is a bit brighter), then goes faster again for the bottom third.
It's subtle, but noticeable when panning up and down a still picture. I think it's probably a "design feature" to work with the large flat screen and compensate, but I also think the transitions are too abrupt and if I were to design this I would look for a way to smooth that over. Anyone have knowledge of this artifact of this TV monitor? It's so good otherwise. Can this "feature" be adjusted?
