Dynamic Range Control on DVD player...

130.132.192.20

I know this is probably a dumb question, but what exactly is this option on my dvd player? The book that came with my Apex dvd player does not really address what this option really will do to the sound (I assume it only affects the sound because it is among the other audio options). Is it meant for late night listening or for poor quality systems that cannot handle the swings in dynamics found on many dvd's? I have no clue. My last question concerns which setting I should leave it on, it goes incrementally starting from off to 1? Should I just leave it off because I have it hooked up to a more than adequate 2-channel system? Thanks for any help you can provide.
