Receiver or Separate Componets?

i am having difficulty deciding between using a Denon AVR-5800 Receiver or
putting together separate components.

coming up with a good combination of components has been a challenge,
specifically processor/preamp & amplifier combination.

any suggestions? feel free to add to the list.
