I see no reason why your 34 pin input could not be used. Try Radio Shack for an adaptor. Otherwise, if you know the pin connections it would be relatively simple to make an adaptor.However, whether or not you will see an improvement is questionable. It depends a lot on the quality of circuitry, the age & size of the tube etc. If it has provision for component input then I guess the quality circuitry is there. Component input, particularly on enhanced DVDs can be stunning, and shows up brilliantly on big screens. However not all DVDs are high quality :-( so it can be chasing after moonbeams.
My suggestion is to give it a go as the cost will be minimal. Do not mess about with S-video if you have component capability, and do not waste dollars on expensive cabling.
