LFE question

205.228.12.47

I am in the midst of reverting my 5 channel HT system back into a higher quality 2 channel system. But for movie purposes it would be nice to have stereo + LFE. If I scrap my HT processor and get a true 2 channel preamp can I use the internal decoder of a DVD player, with the option set to stereo, to get stereo playback but add the LFE channel?

Was thinking of using the 5.1 outputs of a DVD player and hook up the two mains plus the LFE to my preamp and sub respectively, but I don't know if there is such an option. My current DVD player (pioneer dv-525) doesn't have the internal decoder but I was planning on getting a progressive scan DVD player anyway. I am considering the Pioneer DV-37. Will some DVD players do this while others not?

Thanks for any insight you might be able to add.

Josh
