Although you don't need a player with progressive scan, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 capability, the Toshiba 3750 has all these as well as good build quality and is made in Japan to boot. Enthusiast reviews on the internet have been very positive, and downconversion appears to be much improved from previous generation Toshibas. My local Best Buy had this magnificent player on sale for $189 last week.
