Re: Sony 850, 200 DVD/CD changer?

209.24.242.128

Hi Joe,

Check out the Pioneer F727. I own the Sony 850, and I have had the Pioneer 525 and a Pioneer Elite receiver in my system at one time, so I might be able to make some general comments.

I am very satisfied with the Sony 850 performance on video, scanning, chapter changes, etc. The video scanning is superior (by a huge margin) to the Pioneer 525, and the lip sync accuracy is near perfect. However, there is only S-link one-way computer control for the the changer.

The Pioneer F727 looks like the computer control *may* be superior, *may* pass digital 24/96, and is a 50% larger changer to boot. I do not know if the video scan features have improved. The F727 uses Burr-Brown DACs, which *may* be the same Burr Brown DACs as in the Pioneer Elite receivers which I have heard in my system (using pre-out). In my opinion, the Pioneer Elite receiver DACs are outstanding for the price range - excellent air and definition and perhaps slightly better clarity than the 850D, which in turn, probably will show better warmth and body.

YMMV... if you have a chance to directly audition the F727 and compare with the 850D, please let us know! I'd definitely be curious on the above points, and who knows, it might be time to upgrade :-).

Yours,

--andy
