Re: Pioneer 414 vs 525. please help.

hello phil,

i have the 525 and i was considering getting the 414 before the 525 came out. yes, it is the successor. pioneer needs to update their site. i don't know why the 414 would cost more, though i have noticed that too.

the only differences besides slight cosmetic chages are the elimination of a few features. the 525 doesn't have the blue light on the front above the drawer, and it also doesn't have a button to turn off the display. also, i think it will only remember 15 disc settings as opposed to 30 for the 414. all very minor changes. as far as i know, video and sound quality are supposed to be identical. still has the 96/24 DAC's and will still output full 96/24 from the digital outs.

i don't know what "s2 video" is, but i can tell you that i am running mine using the s-video out straight to the tv and it looks great!

hope this helps you out. FWIW, i am completely satisfied with my 525 and have not had a single problem, not even the dreaded audio sync problems. was also nice to get 8 free rentals at netflix, 13 free rentals from blockbuster, and 5 free movies! that pays for half the player.

regards,
richard h
