Actually, Pioneer has two new players. I'm not sure what they are destined to be called in the US, but they are available on the domestic market in Japan and will soon appear in Europe.

First there is the DV-S10A (called DV-828A in Europe). It has progressive-scan component outputs and will play DVD-Audio and CD-R disks in addition to the usual CD, VCD and DVD-Video. Pioneer will make them at the rate of 2000 per month to start with and they cost 200,000 Japanese Yen (US$1900).

Second is the DV-AX10. This is a beefier looking more up-market S10A and in addition to progressive-scan outputs and DVD-Audio abilities it will also play SACD (Super Audio CD) disks, making it the first truely "Universal" player. They will be made at the rate of 500 per month and cost 500,000 Japanese Yen (US$4650).
