Does my new VCR suck?

195.100.225.17

I've had a Panasonic VCR for five years now. I had to switch now though since I needed a stereo VCR for my home theater system. So I bought a Hitachi VT-FX850E. Originally I was going to buy a Panasonic but the seller insisted on that Panasonic was no longer what it used to be so I bought the Hitachi he recommeded.

But I have a problem with the picture quality. Pluging the antenna right into the TV (Finlux 100Hz) gives me a crisp sharp image on all the channels. Same thing when using my old VCR. With the new Hitachi some channels quality plain sucks, this when watching on the VCR's channels itself. I have tried to finetune the image but nothing helps.

Since the image is sharp with my old VCR I figure it must have something to do with the Hitachi VCR.

Is there anything I can try here or must I return the VCR? If I have to return it what good stereo VCR's are there in the price range of 300-400$ ?

/Peter
