There is plenty of controversy whether 1080i or 720p is "better"

Since my display is 720p native, one would think feeding it 720p over DVI would provide the best picture. Turns out 1080i over DVI from satellite receiver gave me better PQ than 720p from this same receiver suggesting to me the the display was doing a better job converting 1080i (or even 720p broadcast stuff?) to the displays native 720p resolution than the source.

I strongly suspect the story will change when I get a better source player which will upconvert any video source to the displays' native 720p resolution; at least my audition/demo of this piece would be highly suggestive this would happen.
