Weird artifacts with the Panasonic DVD s97

What I'm getting is when there are shading in the picture it looks like the shading moves around.
Like on the dvds of Six Feet Under if the sceen is down in the basement and the angle shoots tward the washer aand dryer under the brick arch. The back wall shading will fluctuate.
I'm useing the HDMI to the Panny 34" wide screen. The DVD S97 is in upsample mode to 1080i.
Anyone have an idea?
