Why would he want to intregrate the subs with the rear channels? Are the front speakers full range? If he does indeed want to cross them over with his rear speakers, all he would need is to install a low pass/hi-pass crossover, connecting the subs to the low pass network and the rear speakers to the hi-pass output of the crossover. This will be a passive set up and the rear amplifiers of his avr will be powering the subs and rear speakers. Then he set the rear speakers to LARGE in the avr speaker menu set up.
