Mates,1. I remember reading recently that prices for CRT televisions are supposed to drop significantly this Spring. I think this is supposed to take place due to the more rapid than expected takeover of plasma/lcd/etc panels, plus getting the research and tooling amortized by so many sales.
The panel types are supposed to take a sudden drop too in March or April as new generations from various makers are released. The figure I heard was a 25% drop in the next three of four months.
Has anyone else heard this prognostication?
2. My 1990 Sony 27" XBR went up in smoke in December and while the replacement 27" 1988 GE ($15 at a neighbour's jumble sale) is delightfully primitive with it's one coaxial input and quaint as can be with it's rounded screen mask corners and single speaker, I need to start thinking about a new set!
Who do you feel are making the best- or best value- CRT sets 27" or 32" up to about $700? For a long while I will using this with only it's internal speakers plus DVD and VHS, but later, when my new house is finished, there will be a dedicated sound system. I don't need too many features.
2a. Do you know that whether I can use PIP with digital cable- will the second, internal tuner work for this or do I need some kind of additional decoder?
If panel prices do drop significantly, I might consider spending a bit more- if I could get a decent size.
Thanks!Cheers,
Bambi B
