ht receiver suggestions, less than $500, new/used....

for parents ht. they are not big believers in hi-fi, but want something for them that they can enjoy their music more. can't decide to look a denon(ie avr-3803, etc), yamaha, digital amps (ie.panasonic). i've started with a pair of mission v60 bookshleves for mains. they have inexpensive al-in-one 5.1 kenwood system that i will replace piece by piece. this, hopefully, will be a modest but very decent sounding system. they make a big fuss over costs, although, i am paying. i want this to be a very budget oriented system with hifi characteristics and am looking mostly for used. thanks for any ideas and suggestions.
