Good question. There are some rare shows on major networks (CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC) that I would record just to eliminate commercials and time shift. But I agree, not much. I still use a VCR to good purpose.

It seems that most of my TV watching is PBS--KERA, channel 13 in Dallas/Ft Worth area.

I may even break down someday and get satellite or cable, but when I look at the listing in the TV guide, I don't see much that interests me on a consistent basis.

agreed--I just thought that if I buy a DVR recorder, might as well get one that will record high definition programming at this point, even if most of my recording for the next few years is SD.
