New DVD player while we wait for format war to end?

Hi,
We're new to higher(ish) end video. Now that we have a plasma (Panny 42" 42PX50U) and HD cable, I'd like to upgrade our cheapo Sony DVD player. Sounds like I should at least have progressive scan.
Any thoughts on the best cheapo DVD player while I wait for the HD-DVD to sort itself out (and then the prices to come down in a year or so)?
