Help!..Can't switch VCR to VIDEO Input...

It's a Sony VCR which I have the DVD player plugged in to the
video/L&R audio RCA inputs on rear. I can't figure how to switch
to that input. My other VCR's have the "line in" below channel one
(showing "L"), but L is not appear anywhere. I can get "video" to
appear on the display, but that works like a VCR/TV funtion. I do
not have the orig. remote...using a universal. Does this model
require the orig. remote to get "line in"?.
