Oppo will be releasing a new DVD player in late March or April. The Mediatek decoder they will be using is highly rated, has no visible layer change, is very responsive to commands and it will output 480i 4:2:2 YCbCr via its HDMI output. Your plasma will be responsible for deinterlacing and scaling, but it will be fed about as pure a signal as you can get.You can also check out one of Panasonic's HDMI players. The S97 and S77 will not output 480i, but the 480p (or higher) signal will be deinterlaced by a Faroudja FL23xx series, which also handles any upconverting as well via HDMI.
Whatever you do, be sure to keep the signal going to the plasma in the YCbCr digital video format (as opposed to the digital PC format, should any of the players you choose offer this output).
