If the disc has a soundtrack recorded with PCM, DTS-HD or Dolby True-HD (or any of the other formats, for that matter), this soundtrack will be converted to analog and passed through the analog outputs -- as long as the player has analog outputs.

One problem that may be present is that a few of the players that I know about only have 5.1 analog outputs. With PCM or any of the new formats, the actual soundtrack can be up to 8 (7.1) channels. If there are only 6 (5.1) channels available for analog output, then 2 of the channels will have to be mixed down. What bean-counting genius made that decision? Of course, if you are running the player to a TV's inputs, all of the players with analog outputs will have a "stereo" output for this type of setup.
