Re: Onkyo TX SR 701 & Universal Remotes (long)

Hi,

Won't the remote that came with your Onkyo do all of that? Not sure what a "home theatre" one button is. I have a TXDS-696 Onkyo A/V which came with a very powerful and flexible programmable remote. I use mine to control a Mitsu HDTV, a DirectTV H-10 HD receiver, a DENON DVD player, and a Panasonic DVD player. The learning function allows use with almost anything. I forget offhand but think I have the second DVD player setup on the MiniDisc button. Don't know if yours is as flexible, but I am very happy with mine. My only complaint is that damn 5-way up/down/right/left/enter button. How much more could it possibly cost to change the design just a little? I have had it apart and there are still five micro-switches in there. Oh well.

And just to answer your question, my wife gave me a programmable Radio Shack remote for Christmas a couple of years ago, and it is very capable as well but to me not as ergonomic. It was only $69 or so -- back then anyway.

Cheers, Joe
