When did dual layer DVDs first make their appearance?
I was trying to make a back-up copy of a heavily used DVD from 2002. As the writing process began, I was informed my 4.7gb media was too small. Indeed, this DVD has 7.25gb on it, but properties does not say if it's DL or not. The earliest reference I can find to DVD DL is July, 2004, in reference to a first ever Sony DVD+R DL burner.
Was DVD DL in commercial use on or before 2002?
