Yes, the SXRD1 (and its offspring) only accept a 1080i input, despite having a native resolution of 1080p. You should have known this when you bought it. The SXRD2 will accept a 1080p input. For me its a non-issue. They have excellent de-interlacers, and there is no loss of PQ (in theory).
Besides, what 1080p sources do you have? There is none in broadcasting, and both Blu-ray and HD DVD will give you 1080p via interlaced and de-interlaced signal ie: 1080p24->1080i60->1080p60. HTPCs and a few external scalers will do 1080p, so why worry?
